About June

I’m Deaf and come from three generations of Deaf family. I’ve been signing Auslan since birth, it’s my language and a big part of who I am.

I’ve taught Auslan for over 30 years in communities, TAFE, universities and private lessons. I enjoy sharing my language, culture and real-life experiences, and helping people feel more confident communicating with Deaf people. You’re welcome to ask questions, make mistakes and learn at your own pace.

About the lesson

My Auslan lessons are practical, interactive and tailored to your goals and learning pace. Through everyday conversation, visual demonstrations and guided practice, I help you build confidence in signing, understanding others and connecting with Deaf culture.

As a native signer from a third-generation Deaf family, I bring lifelong experience and over 30 years of teaching Auslan in community settings, TAFE, universities and private lessons.

I welcome beginners and learners wanting to develop their existing skills. Lesson length is flexible and can be discussed to suit your needs, with sessions available online or in person around the Gold Coast.

Pamela is doing really well with her Auslan! As a Diploma student, she already has a good foundation and we’ve been able to hold natural conversations together. With continued practice, I’m confident her receptive skills and confidence will keep growing, helping her feel more comfortable connecting and conversing within the Deaf community.

Perfect! June was amazing at being my first immersion into auslan! As with any language (or any skill?) , finding the sweet spot where you understand just enough to push your knowledge but not feel lost is hard. This is a skill that June holds that is unique to the separate skill of being a good teacher in addition to her knowledge of auslan.

Jenul did very well in his first lesson! Mostly self-taught, he already has a strong vocabulary, picks up Auslan concepts quickly and is very keen to learn. Great potential!

I’ve known June for almost 20 years. First met when she was a tutor for my husband’s Cert I Auslan class. We became friends with our children of similar ages and have socialized often over several years.
I’m hearing and learned Auslan to Cert II before meeting June and have learned a lot since knowing her. She is extraordinarily patient, calm, and kind, with an excellent sense of humor. June is brilliant at figuring out what someone is trying to say but won’t ever make you feel silly for having trouble explaining something or helping you find the signs or words. Nothing is ever too hard or complex for June, and she has the utmost respect and regard for everyone. She naturally makes everyone feel seen, heard, and empowered. She is a great teacher and has superb technical skills and knowledge also.
