About Ryan

From 2012 to 2018 I taught English as a Second Language at public schools and academies in Korea, where I had countless life-transformative experiences in the 6 years I lived there. While I was there, I Instructed elementary students at a public school in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do. I collaborated with Korean co-teachers to plan semester classes and English Camp activities. I led open classes that were evaluated by the Office of Education and other Guest English Teachers. I tutored Korean teachers for their English Speaking Proficiency Test (ESPT), and I Attended teaching seminars organized by the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education.

From 2018 to 2020, I worked at the International School of Advanced Learning in Boston. While there, I Instructed 5-hour classes of intensive English to adult learners from all over the world—many students were from Brazil, Russia, Colombia, Ukraine, and China. I taught for 6 varying English levels and I became the most requested teacher while I was at the school. The school also liked using me for the lowest level English speakers because of my ability to elevate students who lacked the confidence to speak another language. I oversaw cultural activities and orientation around Boston, and we went to parades, libraries, and ate at restaurants. What's more, I provided job interview training and cross-cultural counseling for the students.

From 2019 to the present I have been at the German International School Boston (GISB), which utilized my versatile skills and talents for the school: the Head of our English Department put me to use for ESL/ELL support for students new to the country, or for students who had dyslexia. Also while I was in Boston, I did private tutoring for adult students pursuing their degrees in dentistry and medical science.

To close, I am hopeful to build new and meaningful relationships with my students here!

About the lesson

My academic background is in Anthropology, and I have a professional understanding and passion for human language, culture, and history. I am a student of and speak Spanish, German, Korean, and some Vietnamese. As both a student and teacher of language, I understand what it takes to achieve fluency.
