My name is Riley and I'm a current Masters student at UCL studying under the Department of Information Science. I have an academic background in History, English Language & Literature, and Spanish. I pursued my undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan where I was awarded High Honors for my work with the History Department and Liberal Arts College. I completed University with a 3.9/4.0 grade point average in my field of study. During my undergraduate career, I worked as a tutor at our writing center with first year students in developing sufficient writing skills as well as an English as a second language tutor with mature students from the broader community.
Prior to University, I volunteered as a Peer Mentor at my High School where I assisted peers in understanding and completing coursework in order to prepare for qualifying exams. My coursework was predominately in Advanced Placement and as such I am familiar with the requirements of success in high school level subject examinations.
I take education seriously and am passionate about learning. It's important to me that the students with whom I work not only develop the skills and knowledge required to succeed in an academic setting but also cultivate curiousity and critical thinking. I think that learning can be fun and I try to ensure that it is by emphasizing the interests and strengths of students in order to improve areas of weakness.
In addition to my academic qualifications, I spent several years working as a camp counselor at an outdoor activity-based camp, which has brought me to love working with youth. I have the most experience and comfort working with secondary school age children (14-18.)
