About Sylvie's Notes

Hello everyone! My name is Sylvia Tiekoetter and originally I am from Germany. Growing up, I really loved music and languages and was often writing up my own stories or playing modern worship songs on the piano and later on, also on the guitar. In my church, I also lead the worship on the piano or played along with the violin for a long time. As a teenager, I also started tutoring younger students in my school in English and French grammar or story writing in English. Whatever the subject was, I loved to help other children through the challenges. After finishing school, I taught English in a Christian, African mission for a year, before I started my studies at a Music Conservatory in Germany to become a music teacher. I kept tutoring different school subjects during that time of studies and kept practising my piano, guitar and also violin skills in song playing, but also in classical music. After finishing my bachelor's degree, I was a private tutor and Au-pair on the island of Crete for 14 months, before I returned to Germany and started teaching private instrumental lessons on piano, guitar and violin. I also worked in a primary school and a middle school teaching music and conducting musical performances with children's choirs. Last month, my husband and I moved to Dundee in Scotland.

About the lesson

As a qualified middle and high school teacher, I've always preferred private tutoring over teaching big groups because it gives me more opportunity to focus on the individual students and adjusting the lessons to their individual needs and desires. I have about three years of teaching experience as a music teacher in primary and middle school classes (up to the age of 14), as well as three years of experience as a private teacher for the instruments piano, guitar and violin for all ages and as a private tutor for languages (English, French, German). I like to include games (small riddles, crosswords, memory) into my piano, English or music theory lessons to make the learning experience more fun and create a friendly atmosphere where everyone can learn according to their individual speed. Moreover, I like to use musical song books that use contemporary and classical music to learn notes and techniques on the instruments. Song wishes or specific topics for class test prep and anything else the student brings into the lessons to advance his or her own learning progress, are more than welcome!

We have had Sylvie as a volunteer with us at Eagles Wings Trust for a number of Months now and she has shown herself to be a reliable and trustworthy person. She has a pleasant personality and gets on well with all of the members of our very diverse team. We work with people who are homeless and struggling with Poverty and have witnessed first hand Sylvie's caring and compassionate nature, as she works with the guys and girl's who come to our service. I'm sure that that same caring compassion will be carried over to her work in other fields including her tuition.
