About Jane

I’m a qualified piano teacher with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Griffith University and over 20 years’ experience teaching beginners of all ages.

I specialise in helping complete beginners feel confident at the piano from the very first lesson. My focus is on making learning simple, structured, and enjoyable so students don’t feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start.

Instead of relying on pressure, drills, or rigid step-by-step exercises, I guide students in a way that helps them understand how music works and feel comfortable playing it early on. The goal is steady progress, confidence at the keyboard, and genuine enjoyment of playing.

About the lesson

Lessons are 30 minutes once per week during school terms, with optional holiday lessons available if students wish to continue or extend their learning.

Lessons are built around a modern, structured approach that teaches real music from the beginning.

I combine Samantha Coates’ rote-learning approach to build pattern recognition and fluency, Piano Safari to develop reading, technique, and musicianship together in a clear progression, and carefully selected beginner repertoire (including modern educational composers such as Daniel McFarlane).

This means students are always learning through actual music—not just exercises—so reading, rhythm, and coordination develop naturally and in context.

Students quickly learn how to read music, play with both hands, and understand rhythm in a way that feels achievable and enjoyable. Lessons are calm, supportive, and tailored to each student so they can build confidence without pressure.

Lessons are primarily offered in person, with limited online availability for continuing students.
