About Aleksey
As a composer specializing in theater music, I obtained a doctorate degree in instrumental composition at the Montreal University in 2014. My works include two musicals, the second of which has premiered on Off-Broadway at the Producers Club Theater in New York. I was also hired as composer and artistic director of an opera for the 375th anniversary of Montreal performed at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur.
Alongside my professional composer career, I have been teaching music theory, principally harmony and counterpoint, since 10 years at the University Level. I have taught composition and orchestration to numerous private students and gave multiple conferences and master-classes in Canada and internationally. I have developed solid teaching skills to quickly grasp my student’s needs and provide them with valuable learning tools and knowledge.
I can teach in English, French and Russian.

My philosophy is that no matter how gifted or inspired, a composer cannot create freely and significantly without solid writing and musicianship skill. My teaching experience as well as the knowledge acquired during my university years and my professional composer career grant me the competence to teach my students true craftsmanship through writing skill classes. Together, we explore the craft of Musical Composition by building a solid foundation with the study of Counterpoint, Harmony and Orchestration. My thorough knowledge of the classical repertoire permits a never ending source of examples to illustrate concepts to my students. My classes are meant for advanced students (college/university level).
