About Cass

I am a university MSci Biology and Marine Biology student specialising in Ecology and Palaeoecology, with a strong academic background in the biological sciences and a genuine passion for understanding the natural world. My studies focus on how ecosystems function, how species interact, and how life on Earth has changed over time. I have a keen personal interest in plants and trees as well. I chose to tutor because I enjoy helping others understand science in a clear, structured, and supportive way. Biology can be challenging, but I find it rewarding to break complex topics into manageable steps and help students build both confidence and skill. I take my role as a tutor seriously and aim to be well-prepared, reliable, and professional in every lesson. As someone with ADHD, I also understand that students learn in different ways. I am experienced in adapting my teaching style to suit a wide range of learning needs, and I work to create a calm, respectful environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their abilities. I also value diversity and inclusivity and provide an LGBTQ+ friendly, respectful learning environment where all students feel safe, welcome, and supported.

About the lesson

My approach I believe the best learning happens when students understand why things work, not just what to memorise. My lessons focus on building strong foundations first, then developing confidence through examples, diagrams, discussion, and practice questions. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s learning style, whether they learn best visually, through conversation, or by working through problems together. I aim to make biology and marine biology engaging and easy to understand by connecting concepts to real-world examples, current research, and natural systems. Teaching methods I use: Clear and simple explanations, visual aids and diagrams, exam-style questions and worked examples, active recall and short recap quizzes. Lessons will be adapted to the individual needs of each student. Lesson length Most lessons are 60 minutes, with longer sessions available for revision or coursework support. Qualifications I am an undergraduate in Biology and Marine Biology and have many years of experience with field work, lab work and academia/research. I have volunteer experience working with children, and have experience in teaching and tutoring. Neurodiversity-friendly I am ADHD and ASD friendly (I have ADHD myself) and I’m happy to adapt lessons for different learning needs, attention styles, and processing speeds. Who I teach I tutor all levels and ages, including school (primary, secondary, GCSE + A-Level), university, and adult learners, in: Biology, Marine biology, Ecology, Palaeoecology, Climate Change and other related topics. Exam and assignment support Lessons are always tailored to the student’s goals and needs.
