About Catherine

Hello, my name is Catherine! I’m a classically trained soprano and voice teacher specializing in technical vocal development and artistic expression for pop, musical theatre and classical genres.

My approach to teaching is rooted in my love for vocal pedagogy, supported by my studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston, as well as my Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from McGill University.

As both a performer and teacher, I have appeared in operas, musical theatre productions, and concerts across North America, most recently in the Musiva concert series in Orlando, Florida. Throughout my career, my work has been recognized with a Sutton Foster Ovation Award and a Jimmy Awards nomination.

I bring my experiences as a performer to my lessons to help students build their vocal toolkit and connect deeply with the music they perform.

I look forward to helping you grow as a singer! :)

About the lesson

*Lessons are taught in English and typically focus on outcome-based skills:

- Breath & pitch control: Sing in tune with ease.
- Diction & style: Sound clear and natural in every song.
- Musical expression & text interpretation: Bring emotion and story to your songs to move an audience.
- Audition prep: Be able to sing and perform with confidence.
- Music theory basics: Understand the music you are singing at a fundamental level. *Optional*

Each student receives individualized training tailored to their interests. My voice lessons are best with singers who are curious and committed to steady growth. I strive to create a focused, encouraging and enjoyable space where students feel comfortable to try new sounds and get creative.

Lessons are student-centered, fostering vocal technical autonomy through guided self-reflection and feedback, allowing students to actively engage in the discovery of their unique voice.

Strengths are always celebrated while new skills are developed with thoughtful guidance and steady support. It’s not only about singing better, but about building a voice you feel good sharing :)

***For first lessons, I teach online or at my apartment located about 5 minutes away from metro Charlevoix. Otherwise, I typically teach at either my apartment or Epilogue Studios located about 5 minutes away from Berri UQAM metro station.

I also teach online over Microsoft Teams and Cleanfeed.

Perfect! Learning how to sing with no musical background in your mid 20s is hard. It’s a journey that involves humility, perseverance and, of course, a pretty damn good teacher.

For anyone willing to take a chance at picking up this new skill, you’ll find in Catherine a teacher that is knowledgeable, compassionate and experienced. Her teaching style comes with precise instructions and clear expectations on exercises to be done outside of class to support a steady progression. While the diligence is much needed, she has also shown great flexibility in her teaching style to accommodate my needs as a student.

In the few months that I’ve worked with Catherine, I can confidently say that my singing has improved. More importantly, I’ve had an amazing time exercising and attending my weekly class. I am thrilled to keep working on new projects. If you’re debating booking the class, send the text! Wish I had done so sooner

Perfect! J'aime la manière de rendre visuelle les sons ou concepts qu'elle essaie de me transmettre. J'apprécie aussi sa méthodologie lorsqu'elle utilise les 'sheets'. Moi qui ne m'y connaissais pas en lecture de musique, j'ai appris plusieurs notions intéressantes. J'ai également appris à prendre des notes sur mes 'sheets' pour mieux interpréter ma chanson. Et j'aime sa bonne humeur qui rend le cours agréable. Sans équivoque, suivre des cours avec elle, c'est une de mes expériences préférées :) Je la recommande!

I didn't know anything about reading music, but I've learnt several interesting concepts. I also learned how to take notes on my sheets to better interpret my song. Sheet music and room booking at Epilogue Music is included in the hourly price for in-person lessons.

It is always recommended for students to bring a water bottle, a three ring binder or iPad, and some pencils to the lessons.
