As an educator with a diverse cultural background, I consciously incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy into my classroom. I plan lessons and units carefully to ensure an equitable, authentic and inclusive learning environment. For me, my students not only become a part of my classes but also a part of my lessons. I take the time to get to know my students’ interests and the cultures with which they identify so that my program is relevant and engaging to all. I look for ways to include my students’ birthplaces, favourite festivals, and their favourite musicians from their respective countries into my lessons. In doing so, I let my students know that their voices matter.

My teaching style is not your usual "here's a worksheet, now fill it". I focus heavily on speaking as that is how you learn a language; by speaking. All my assessments focus on authentic interaction and have proven to be a success among my students - especially those who are reluctant to participate.
