About Michael
My name is Michael, and I am a medical student with a strong foundation in the sciences and extensive experience preparing for high-stakes standardized exams. I have spent years refining efficient study strategies through my own MCAT, USMLE STEP 1, and medical school journey, and I bring that same structured, results-oriented approach to my tutoring.
I take tutoring seriously and approach each student with professionalism, preparation, and respect for their time and goals. I understand that every student starts at a different level, so I tailor each session to meet individual needs, whether that means building foundational knowledge, improving passage-based reasoning, or fine-tuning test-taking strategies. My goal is to create a focused and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and actively engaging with the material.
Students can expect clear explanations, organized sessions, and a strong emphasis on accountability and progress. I prioritize high-yield content and proven strategies to ensure that time is used efficiently. I also provide structured plans and feedback so students always know what to work on between sessions.
Above all, I aim to help students build confidence in their abilities. The MCAT and STEP 1 can feel overwhelming, but with the right approach and consistent guidance, it becomes much more manageable. I am committed to helping each student not only improve their score, but also develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed on exam day.

My name is Michael, and I am a medical student who has gone through the same process my students are currently facing. I understand how overwhelming MCAT preparation can feel, especially when it seems like there is an endless amount of content to review. My approach focuses on simplifying that process and helping students think like the exam rather than just memorizing information.
My teaching method is centered around high yield learning, active recall, and passage based reasoning. Instead of passively reviewing notes, I guide students to engage with material the way it appears on the MCAT. We focus heavily on understanding patterns, recognizing how concepts are tested, and developing a structured approach to breaking down passages. I incorporate question based learning using MCAT style questions so students can actively apply what they know and identify gaps quickly. I also emphasize strategy, including timing, eliminating answer choices, and avoiding common traps that the exam uses.
A typical lesson is structured but flexible based on the student’s needs. We usually start with a brief review of previously covered topics and any practice questions the student has completed. From there, we dive into a focused topic or set of concepts, keeping the discussion concise and high yield. The majority of the session is spent working through practice passages together, where I walk through my thought process step by step so students can learn how to approach questions independently. We end each session with clear takeaways and a targeted plan for what to study or practice before the next lesson.
What sets me apart is that I teach from the perspective of someone who has recently succeeded in standardized medical exams and understands what actually works. I focus on efficiency and clarity, helping students avoid wasting time on low yield material. I also tailor my teaching to each student, whether they need help building foundational knowledge or refining advanced test taking strategies. My goal is not just to help students improve their scores, but to make them confident and consistent in how they approach the exam.
My lessons are best suited for premedical students preparing for the MCAT at any stage, whether they are just starting content review or are in the practice and refinement phase. I work with students across all core MCAT subjects, including biology, biochemistry, general chemistry, and CARS, with a strong emphasis on integrating concepts and improving passage based reasoning.
