About Nathan

Hi, I’m Nathan, a medical student at Hull York Medical School with a strong passion for Biology and Medicine. I chose to study medicine because I’ve always been interested in understanding how the body works and applying science in a meaningful, real-world way.

I want to teach because I genuinely enjoy helping others understand topics that may initially seem difficult or overwhelming. I know from experience that the right explanation can make a big difference, and I find it really rewarding to see students grow in both confidence and ability over time.

Having recently gone through the challenges many students are going through myself, I understand the challenges students face and what is needed to succeed in exams. My aim is to support students not just in improving their grades, but in building confidence and developing a more positive approach to learning.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, focusing on building both understanding and confidence. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as this is key to effective learning.

I typically structure my lessons by first identifying areas the student finds challenging, then breaking topics down into clear, manageable steps. I use a combination of explanations, active recall, and exam-style questions to reinforce learning. I also regularly check understanding throughout the lesson and adapt my teaching style to suit each student’s pace and learning preferences.

Lessons are usually 60 minutes long, which I find gives enough time to cover content in depth while keeping students engaged. However, I can be flexible depending on the student’s needs.

I am currently a medical student at Hull York Medical School, with a strong background in science subjects, particularly Biology as well as the Medical application. Through my studies, I have developed effective ways of simplifying complex concepts and applying knowledge to exam questions.

My lessons are aimed at GCSE students, typically aged 14–18, who are looking to improve their understanding, boost their grades, or gain confidence in Biology and applying to Medicine.
