About Chistian

Expert Tutor in Clinical Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, and Research Methods

I am a medical doctor (MBBS) with an MMedSc in Clinical Epidemiology, an MBA, and a BMedSc (First Class Honours in Pathology). I'm currently completely (3 units left) a Master of Public Health/Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence at UNSW. With over 25 years of experience across clinical medicine, academia, public health, biomedical research, and health technology assessment, I bring an unusually broad and deep level of expertise to my teaching.

I have a long history of university-level teaching, curriculum development, and supervision of students at undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher degree research levels. My students consistently praise my ability to break down complex concepts, provide clear and actionable guidance, and support them to achieve excellent academic and professional outcomes.

I currently work as a Clinical Epidemiologist specialising in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) at Griffith University. I am also involved in the conduct of both clinical and observational trial in this role. During semesters I teach clinical skills and integrated clinical practice in the Medical School at Bond University. I previously held the roles as Research Assistant Professor at the School of Population Health, University of Western Australia (UWA) and Research Associate at the National Institute of Drug Research, Curtin University. These roles have equipped me with practical, hands-on experience in advanced analytical methods and real-world research translation.

Why Study With Me?
I specialise in helping students who want:
Clear explanations of difficult statistical and epidemiological concepts
Step-by-step support in data analysis
Guidance through research design and methodology
Help interpreting results and preparing publications
Expert tuition that connects theory to real clinical and health research applications
Patient, supportive, and high-quality instruction at any level

Whether you're struggling with a specific topic, preparing for an exam, writing a thesis, analysing large datasets, or completing a research project, I offer tailored support based on your goals.

Areas of Expertise

Biostatistics and Quantitative Analysis
I provide comprehensive teaching and analytical support across foundational and advanced areas of biostatistics, including:

Descriptive statistics and exploratory data analysis
Categorical data analysis
t-tests and other parametric tests
ANOVA, ANCOVA, MANCOVA
Chi-squared tests
Correlation and simple/multiple linear regression
Logistic regression and other generalised linear models
Mixed models, multilevel modelling, and longitudinal data analysis
Survival analysis e.g., Kaplan-Meier curves, life tables and Cox proportional hazards modelling
Measures of accuracy: sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV
Inter-rater agreement and Kappa statistics
Sample size and power calculations
Analysis of very large or linked health datasets
Statistical programming support (depending on your preferred software)
Systematic review and meta-analysis, including effect size calculations

I assist students from a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, allied health, public health, psychology, biomedical science, pharmacy, and health economics.

Epidemiology, Research Methods, and Study Design
With formal training and extensive professional experience in epidemiology, I can guide you through key topics such as:

Epidemiological principles and study design
Cohort, case-control, cross-sectional, interventional, and quasi-experimental studies
Bias, confounding, effect modification, and causal inference
Screening, diagnostic accuracy, and predictive modelling
Critical appraisal of scientific literature
Data handling and dataset preparation
Research proposal development and protocol writing
Ethics applications and governance processes
Implementation of evidence-based practice
Public health research methods and population health evaluation

My approach emphasises practical understanding and integrates real-world clinical and epidemiological scenarios.

Health Economics and HTA

Drawing on my current role, I provide specialised teaching in:
Cost-effectiveness analysis
Cost-utility analysis using QALYs
Interpreting cost-effectiveness planes and acceptability curves
Economic modelling
Decision analytic models
Evidence synthesis for HTA
Understanding HTA submissions and policy implications e.g., submission to the Medical Services Advisory Committee and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee.

This is particularly useful for students in pharmacy, public health, health economics, and health policy.

Academic Writing, Research Support, and Supervision
I have an extensive track record of academic publishing and conference presenting, and I can offer comprehensive support in academic and scientific communication, including:

Thesis and dissertation support
Structuring and writing literature reviews
Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
Manuscript preparation for publication
Grant and ethics applications
Editing, proofreading, and rewriting for clarity
Meticulous referencing with a variety of software (RefMan, Zotero and EndNote)
Guidance in scientific argument, logic, and clarity

My goal is to help you produce clear, rigorous, and professional academic work.
