About Matthew
Hello, I am Matthew, currently studying collaborative piano at McGill University! I am from Hong Kong and my native language is Cantonese. I am passionate about language learning and hope to guide all of you with your Cantonese-learning journey. In my lesson, I repeat vocabulary out loud for accuracy of pronunciation, organize words into themes and turn them into notes for easier memorization, teach sentence structures and fit vocabulary into these frames. As a German and French beginner, I understand the steps of language learning, as well as the difficulties. I am sure I am a perfect fit for teaching Cantonese, given my language background, and enthusiasm for teaching Cantonese and spreading the language to more people!

My teaching methodology consists of several parts. In terms of accuracy of pronunciation, I read certain vocabulary out loud, and ask students to repeat it. For accumulation of vocabulary, I divide vocabulary into themes, like home and traveling, then organize them into notes. In a typical lesson, I revise topics covered in the last lesson, then proceed to new materials. In a lesson, I ask students to name things which have been taught, and they have to use this vocabulary to make a question, so as to practice. As an enthusiastic language learner, I learned a bit of German and French. I realized the steps of language learning, which involves repetition of sounds, building vocabulary, sentence structure, and conversation practice. This makes me understand how to teach a language to beginners step by step. Besides that, I master Cantonese Pinyin. I am able to convey pronunciation to students effectively. The lessons are for students of all levels, from beginner to advanced level. My lessons are tailor-made for students.
