About Rach

I am a Master’s-qualified artist and designer with a strong background in both creative industry, practice and teaching. I currently teach art and design at tertiary level, where I support students with skill development, visual thinking, and creative confidence.

My approach is professional, well-structured, and student-focused. I take care to create a learning environment where students feel supported, respected, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. Lessons are thoughtfully planned, clearly explained, and adapted to suit individual needs or specific assessment requirements.

I value clear communication, reliability, and preparation. Students can expect sessions that are focused, purposeful, and tailored to their goals — whether that is improving technical skills, developing ideas, or gaining confidence in their creative ability.

I am especially mindful that many students come to art feeling unsure or anxious about their work. My role is to help them build skills and belief in themselves, while maintaining high standards and a calm, professional tone.

My tutoring style is supportive, structured, and tailored to the individual learner. I focus on helping students build skills, confidence, and understanding in art and design — not just completing tasks.

Each lesson begins by identifying the student’s current level, goals, and areas of challenge. This might include improving drawing skills, developing ideas, building a portfolio, or gaining confidence with visual problem-solving, or specific software outcomes. Lessons are then adapted to suit how the student learns best.

Teaching techniques and methodology
I use a hands-on, guided approach, combining:
practical exercises and demonstrations
clear visual examples
step-by-step skill development
constructive feedback that explains why something works and how to improve it

Rather than correcting work for students, I teach them how to analyse and refine their own work, helping them become more independent and confident over time.

Lesson length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, which allows time for:

skill warm-ups or technique focus
focused making or development
feedback and clear next steps

Lesson length and frequency can be adjusted to suit the learner.

Qualifications and experience
I am a Master’s-qualified artist and designer with professional experience across drawing, printmaking, visual art, and graphic design. I currently teach art and design at tertiary level, supporting students with creative development, software skills,, portfolios, and assessment processes.

This means I bring both strong subject knowledge and teaching experience into every session.

Who the lessons are for
My lessons are suitable for:
Senior secondary students needing support with art or design subjects (especially expanding software skills and familiarity to increase the quality of outcomes).
Tertiary students developing studio work or portfolios
Adult learners returning to creative practice or building confidence with new (digital) processes.

I work especially well with students who feel unsure or stuck, and I aim to create a calm, encouraging learning environment where progress feels achievable.
