About Kiana

Hello, I’m looking forward to working with you! My name is Kiana and I have been tutoring students at all levels for 8 years. I have a Master of Arts in Global Development and Global Political Economy, a BA (Hons.) in Political Studies and International Development, and I completed the I.B. Program with HLs in French, English and History. I graduated with every degree with distinction and high GPAs, and I have helped other students achieve similar results! I have done volunteer tutoring with middle school and high school students, and I was a professional tutor and Teaching Assistant throughout my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Canada and in Belgium.

Whether assistance on theory and concepts, or proofreading, editing, and essay structure advice, I can do it! My priority at any level is to help you learn the foundations and key principles of argumentation, critical thinking and narrative-building.

When learning about concepts, theories, events and key dates, I will work with you to find creative and fun approaches that not only teach you the information in a way that makes sense to you, but I will also work with you to explore the significance of these concepts. My goal at the end of our work together is for you to feel more sure of your knowledge and to feel more confident in your skillset so that you can apply practical skills, analysis and structure to your future assignments with ease.

With political and philosophical theories and concepts that have been around for centuries, it can sometimes be difficult to contextualize their significance and their application in today’s society and political landscape. My approach to content teaching is based on working through the practical significance of the social sciences just as much as helping you learn the theories and concepts. Specific strategies that we can use can range from flashcards and memory games, to practice questions around “what if” scenarios, to debates and pretend interviews to help you learn about a specific person or event, to narrative building exercises.

For essay and assignment help, aside from proofreading and editing help, I can also help you break down the key components of successful research and argumentation. Whether this is helping you structure your essay, creating a clear and captivating narrative, coming up with a thesis statement, or developing your analytical voice, these are all skills that we can work on together. I can also help you with specific assignments like literature reviews, annotated bibliographies, research methodologies, research assignments or investigative assignments.

Finally, I have experience working with ESL students and those with different or neurodivergent learning styles. I will tailor my strategies, approaches and resource toolkit to best fit your needs!
