About Gian

Gian Castro (known as Goodjob or Goodjob Gian) is a DJ and producer who keeps his heart in the underground culture of House & Techno, and takes his audience on an abstract thrill-ride through those genres and his own interpretation of dance music. Being of South American descent, Gian was immersed in a colorful world of percussive rhythms, Andean melodies, Afro-Peruvian Folk, as well as Salsa Music. In college, he acquired the Recording Engineer Degree and was Head of Production for Long Beach City College’s school radio station (KCTY FM), keeping that position for almost 3 years. His culture, experience, along with witnessing Hip-Hop’s heyday and the evolution of House and Techno made him a well-versed artist. All his craftsmanship, style, influences, and techniques are revealed during his performances, electrifying dance floors everywhere. Playing alongside such artists as Christian Martin (of Dirtybird Records), Donald Glaude, Boris, DJ Three, Jody Wisternoff, DJ Dan, and Doc Martin has helped launch his career. Goodjob’s following and publicity have steadily multiplied, resulting in bookings throughout California, Mexico, and overseas. Goodjob might not take things, like his stage name, too seriously, but when it comes to music, you can tell why he was appointed the name.

About the lesson

DJ Lessons by Goodjob Gian

Professional DJ & Music Engineer • 16+ Years Experience • Bilingual Instruction (English/Spanish)

My Teaching Method & Techniques

As a DJ tutor, my approach blends real-world experience, modern music technology, and personalized coaching to help students unlock their potential. I combine hands-on instruction with verbal, demonstrational, and a blend of visual guidance to accelerate learning, inspire creativity, and build unmatched technical confidence.
* Hands-on Learning: Students learn by doing — mixing live, setting up gear, and practicing transitions, effects, and cue points.
* Personalized Pace: Whether you're a complete beginner or aspiring club/festival DJ, I adapt to your skill level and musical taste.
* Technique + Theory: I teach both the how and the why — BPM, phrasing, harmonic mixing, crate organization, and crowd reading.
* Real DJ Routines: You’ll create actual set lists, practice transitions, and learn crowd-ready routines.

A Typical Lesson Plan (1-Hour Example)

Every lesson is interactive, progress-based, and ends with an actionable takeaway.
00:00 – 00:10: Check-in & Setup
* Warm-up discussion (music tastes, questions from last session)
* Gear setup walkthrough (controller/CDJs, laptop, Rekordbox/Serato)
00:10 – 00:25: Skill Focus of the Day
* e.g., Beatmatching by ear, Hot cue drills, Looping techniques, FX usage
00:25 – 00:40: Live Practice & Coaching
* Practice transitions between 2–3 songs
* Live coaching with tips on timing, EQ, and phrasing
00:40 – 00:55: Creative/Performance Skill
* How to build a mini-set, interact with the crowd, or add flair
* Learn a new effect, filter transition, or energy build-up trick
00:55 – 01:00: Recap & Homework
* Feedback, goals for next session, and a short challenge to practice

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

* 16+ Years of Real-World DJ Experience: From clubs and weddings to festivals and art cars, I’ve done it all — and I teach from the trenches.
* Bilingual, Patient, and Supportive: I meet students where they’re at, whether you’re brand-new or already spinning.
* DJ + Engineer: I’m not just a performer — I understand the gear, the signal flow, and how to troubleshoot.
* Industry-Connected: I can help you prep for real gigs and even connect you to venues, promoters, or events.

Who My Lessons Are For

My lessons are perfect for:
* Beginners: Never touched a deck? No problem. I’ll teach you from the ground up.
* Intermediate DJs: Ready to level up your transitions, crowd control, and set-building? Let’s refine your sound.
* Aspiring Performers: Planning to play at a club, party, or festival? I’ll get you performance-ready.
* Music Producers: Want to learn DJing to showcase your own music live? I’ll help you integrate both skills.
* Event DJs (Weddings, Corporate): Learn professional MC skills, gear setup, setlist structure, and mic usage.
Ages: 10 and up
Languages: English & Spanish
Format: In-person (SoCal) or virtual via Zoom
Gear Needed: I can teach on your gear, my portable setup, or pro CDJs, depending on your goals.
