About Ana

I am studying for my Master's in Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language, and I also have a Bachelor's in Linguistics.
I am a freelance editor and proofreader in my spare time (for 6 years now). I work full time in customer support, and in managing teamwork and reservations for a short term rental management company.
I have been teaching in many ways for a long time. I have been working as a trainer for new recruits (4 years), tutoring young writers (6 years), and teaching Portuguese to foreign learners (1 year), so I think this is reflected in my flexible approach to my students' needs.

About the lesson

From my background a a student and as a teacher in various contexts, I understand that everyone learns differently. I make study plans with practice materials focused on my students' difficulties, but with specific strategies that work for them (visual, auditory cues, informal situations, etc.)

I met Ana when I arrived in Porto. She worked for the company managing my house. I had been in Portugal for 4 months and knew some basic expressions. She gave me her email and told me she was studying to be a Portuguese teacher for foreigners, and asked me if I was interested in helping her practice her teaching skills.
We had 5 informal sessions, I told her I wanted to be able to read street names and ask for directions by talking to the natives in small cities, and order food in restaurants by reading the menu and not just pointing and using my phone to translate the items.
