About Vicky

I am a professional cellist with training backgrounds at top-tier conservatories (New England Conservatory and Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University). My professors include Hans Jensen and Lluis Claret, both are great pedagogues and artists. I just finished my Master's Degree at Northwestern University. Over my years at conservatories, I have taken on the role of cello principal at orchestras for multiple times. I have 3 years of experience teaching young children and adult learners. I have a gentle approach to young children, building strong bonds with both children and parents, ensuring that their musical potential and love for music could grow together during the learning process. I love delving into the details and figuring out the mechanism behind a good musical tone and sound. Meanwhile, I am very attentive to build healthy playing habits for my students. Injury is not uncommon in the professional music field today, and often these injuries were resulted from years of playing with unhealthy posture and habits. My goal is to guide my students to a healthy journey of instrumental playing and also make them independent learners, so that they would eventually grow their own beautiful wings to fly with freedom and to explore the beauty of the musical world.

About the lesson

I am a patient and funny teacher who is adept at building strong technical foundation and convincing musical interpretational knowledge for cello playing. I customize a training system for each of my student and I teach concepts through demonstration and discussion. Eventually, I aim to have my students become independent musical thinkers and bring out their unique style respectively. The teaching material depends on what level of performance they are currently playing. I usually start a lesson with technique training for beginners and then go into musical pieces. For advanced players, I will primarily work on musical pieces and then assign specific technique training if needed. As a cellist and a teacher, I am very observant and methodical. I could pinpoint the root problem quickly and offer on-point solutions. I am also very imaginative and I like making the learning process a fun and rewarding one for both my students and myself. Most importantly, I take great care of my students. I take notes for each of my student and devise ways to make my student a better musician and person. I give lessons to players of all levels.
