About Kristopher

I have received my bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Penn State in 2017, and my master's degree in Animal and Veterinary Science from Clemson University in May 2019. I have been a tutor and mentor for over 6 years, and my most proud moment was when I was able to prepare one of my students to present their preliminary research at an international conference!

About the lesson

I believe that teaching should go beyond the classroom so that students are not memorizing facts for an exam and forgetting that information the next semester. To achieve this goal, I strive to utilize real-world examples and encourage students to critically think about the information that they are receiving. I utilize the scientific method often within my classroom and mentorship roles. I believe that students should be able to identify conflicting statements and conceptualize their own opinions based off of scientific literature. When reviewing literature, I ask my students to engage in discussions and ask questions about the scientific content.

Within the classroom, I use a mixture of lectures, in-class exercises, and one-on-one coaching to help students accomplish the learning objectives of the course. I design my lectures to break down complex concepts by providing examples relevant to the students. Within lectures, I stop frequently to ask questions that require the students to reflect upon the material and allow them to discuss with one another about difficult topics. I strive to be patient with all of the students, and to be non-judgmental when providing feedback on assignments or when answering questions and concerns. Additionally, I strive to be available as much as possible outside of class through email and in-person meetings so that students can feel like they can approach me anytime with questions.

Overall, my classroom will include lectures that engages and challenges students, as well as be inclusive to all individuals. The pursuit of higher education should allow a student to grow as an individual and reach goals that they never thought were possible. I believe that higher education should foster a student’s creativity, individualism, sense of purpose, and encourage them to pursue a career path that excites them.
