About Damoon
I’m Damoon, a data scientist with a PhD in statistical learning and mathematics. Alongside my industry work, I have been teaching at McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies since 2018, where I develop and teach courses in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
As a senior data scientist, I have worked in the public sector at Statistics Canada and in the private sector across fintech, healthcare startups, telecommunications, and transportation. This experience allows me to connect the concepts I teach with problems encountered in practice.

My lessons connect machine learning theory with practical applications. Having taught and supervised students from a range of backgrounds and skill levels, I explain concepts intuitively and help you develop your understanding and practical skills at a level and pace suited to you.
Based on your goals and familiarity with data analysis and coding, I develop a tailored learning plan and timeline to build the knowledge and skills you need. Whether you need help with the mathematics or applying models to data, we can adjust the balance accordingly.
Through worked examples, guided exercises, and discussions, we explore how methods work, what assumptions they make, when to use them, and how to evaluate their results. For practical implementation, we can use Python or R, depending on your goals and preferences. Lessons can follow your university coursework or be structured around a practical project.
My lessons suit undergraduate and graduate students, professionals developing their machine learning skills, and learners transitioning into data science. Topics can include statistical learning, supervised and unsupervised learning, neural networks, deep learning, model evaluation, and the mathematical foundations behind these methods. You do not need to arrive with everything figured out: we will identify the foundations you need and build from there.
