My bespoke lessons are tailored to help each tutee reach their full potential, in a friendly, relaxed environment, sharing all the tips of the trade and honing individual strengths by working on developing ideas and clarity of expression. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Art History (at A-level and university level) Fine Art (at GCSE and A-level) Art History UCAS applications and interview prep Fine Art applications (interview and portfolio prep, including digital portfolios) English Language and Literature GCSE English Literature A-level - Tell me about your qualifications. I graduated from Oxford University (St Catherine's College), with a First in Art History, before which I completed an art foundation diploma at City and Guilds of London Art School. I hold an MA from the Courtauld (Distinction) in early 20th century German Art and Architecture and am going on to start an Art History PhD at Edinburgh University in late 2018. At secondary school I received 10 A*s at GCSE and three A*s at A Level. - How much do you charge? Each initial lesson is a complimentary taster hour, so you can invest in future lessons with confidence. This taster session can take place in person or on Skype. I charge a flat rate of £40 per lesson, including for application prep to non-Oxbridge universities, but Oxbridge applications preparation sessions are £50 per hour. - Where do you teach? I teach at students' houses or via Skype, depending on what is convenient for the tutee. - When are you available? Flexible, variable times through the week and weekend, depending on the tutee's availability. - Which ages and levels do you teach? I mainly tutor at A-level, but have taught pupils from 8 years all the way up to university level. - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. Lessons would be taught via Skype, sometimes with a supporting PowerPoint sent ahead of the session. - Do you have a personal message for students? I have immensely enjoyed my experiences in Art History and Fine Art, but I also understand how daunting the assessments in these subjects can feel. With the right mentoring, any examinations or interviews have the potential to be engaging and exhilarating. Each lesson will be tailored to your particular topics or projects, at your pace. For fine artists: I spent a year specialising in plaster and clay sculpture at art school, but have also worked using the materials and techniques of printing, welding, concrete, casting, painting and life class. I will guide your creative process and help you produce sketchbooks that will do justice to your ideas. I will teach you how to record the evolution of your ideas in a visual language and with an awareness of wider influences and relevant theory. For Art Historians and English Literature and Oxbridge candidates: my experiences at Oxford taught me how these institutions value raw potential over rote learning. My job will be to equip you with the skills to visually analyse images, and to further draw out your academic interests so that, by the time you are faced with an exam or an interview, you will be able to approach questions with the intellectual curiosity and sophistication an interviewer or examiner is looking for.
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
Lucy is an amazing, clever, creative and committed tutor. Initially we thought the fee was expensive but I now believe that it was great value. Lucy's soft but informed manner really helped as he was struggling to “connect” with his tutors. At every stage throughout his two-year journey Lucy has been there helping him to obtain his desired grade for his first choice of university (Bath). We really loved working with Lucy who smoothed the path and would highly recommend her tutoring.
