About Yvonne

I have been studying economics for 6+ years now, starting off in High School with micro and macroeconomics. My fascination has led me to study Fashion Management, where I focused on business-related economics and finance. Then I switched to my BA in Political Economy at Kings College London, which led me to my current MA at LSE.

I like that I have this varied background because it gives me the advantage of understanding what the government, the businesses, and the customers want! That is really essential because most of the time we want to anticipate what either of these actors will do. It gives me a lot of joy to think about our society, especially because studying econ made me realize that we are more well-organized than most economists might claim. Of course, they emphasize how egoistic human nature can be ... but if you dive deeper, the complex governance structures, competition laws and so forth we have created might argue against that. The subject fascinates me because we always learn more about our own society.

I made my own mark also in learning about the companies perspectives, we so often like to talk about in academia, in real life. Interning with M&G, J&P Morgan and the TATA Group taught me what businesses care about and how they think about their products.

I enjoy tutoring both the ins- and outs of academia/literature on this topic. Thankfully there are always interesting, albeit not always positive, news we can use as case studies. Teaching you, teaches me to keep updated with the ever so fast pasted world!

First Economics or Economic Theory, especially in A-Level little to do with maths! Traditionally the subject is primarily concerned with the rational choices you take day-to-day. Whilst this is changing with updates on our human psychology, textbooks do emphasize the norm. I will help you link your everyday thoughts with economics theories to discern whatever textbooks or papers are trying to teach you. In particular, we will focus on the key thinkers and how understanding their original ideas is important.

We will then connect these ideas to the rational choices we make, and model them if required on Graphs to bring our ideas on paper. The Graphs are quintessentially just a summary of thought processes that might have come to you naturally anyways. Depending on what level you want to study economic theory, we will look at game-theory and collective action problems, etc.

If you are interested in studying economics outside of the classroom, I have great books that are new and time-relevant that you should look into. For instance, doughnut economics gave me a lot of interest and passion for the subject. For more advanced reads, looking at central bank independence might be of interest to you.
