About Louise
I graduated from Coventry University in 2012 with a degree in product design, specializing in Toy Design.
Since 2006 I have been creating bespoke soft toys; this began as an exercise for me; designing and working out patterns, and creating and experimenting with different fabrics such as fleece and corduroy. Due to the positive feedback and requests I had received thanks to my online portfolio, in 2007 I began taking commissions to recreate the characters of clients as soft toys. As well as forming my own aesthetic, I greatly enjoy working with the styles of others and I am also very adept at illustrating to get an understanding and feel for characters, working closely with the customer to bring their ideas to life.
Since 2009 I have been working to make this into a registered business and sell my work via an online store. I have ambitions to tour appropriate fares and conventions to distribute my products, building my customer base and look into collaborating with other bespoke freelancers.
As well as many years of online commission experience making soft toys, since graduating I have had professional experience as a freelance plush pattern designer.
My creative process involves a lot of brainstorming and preliminary sketching while in regular contact with the client, developing digital and traditional model sheets and creating prototypes up until the products completion. Working with a company called Dempsey Designs Ltd, designing soft toys as craft kit patterns to be added to a line called 'Mini Craft Kits' (concealed information)
My Interests lie in Natural History (fictional, factual and legend), The Art of character design and story telling, as well as the eternal path to Self improvement. I collect reference books and get giddy over new stationary and craft tools. I have always enjoyed giving form to ideas, and broadening my horizons.

Since I am a self-taught seamstress, I take influence not only from the clothes, but also patterns used for firmer packaging, like boxes, tennis balls etc.
I go through a lot of revisions, and I believe making mistakes and understanding exactly why something does work is part of the fun!
