About John
I'm a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music, where I trained as a classical trombonist. I've participated in and finaled in international solo competitions and have performed extensively as both a chamber musician and an orchestral player in performances across Europe.
My teaching focuses on technique-based learning to further develop musicality and interpretive skills. I work with students on:
Technique — tone production, range, flexibility, and endurance. Regular students get complimentary text access to send in playing tapes between lessons for consistent and thorough feedback.
Audition preparation — excerpts, mock auditions, and performance strategies for orchestral and school auditions. Regular students can also text in practice recordings for feedback as their audition approaches.
Interpretation — phrasing, style, and musical decision-making
Solo repertoire — curating and preparing repertoire suited to each student's level and goals
