About Ryan
Teaching piano for 5 years to over 150 students has taught me the importance of a personalized and expressive approach. Over the past 5 years, I have been fortunate to teach piano to students ranging from absolute beginners to advanced players preparing for competitions and recitals. My teaching philosophy centers around making piano lessons engaging, relevant, and tailored to each student’s goals.
I focus on building strong fundamentals—posture, hand technique, rhythm, and music theory—while encouraging creative exploration like improvisation and composition. I believe music education should be holistic, combining disciplined practice with fun and inspiration. For example, I often incorporate students’ favorite songs to maintain motivation and make practice feel less like work.
I strive to build confidence by celebrating every achievement, no matter how small, and by helping students overcome challenges patiently and thoughtfully. A highlight of my teaching experience was preparing a teenage student for their first public recital; we worked on everything from technical mastery to stage presence, resulting in a performance full of poise and emotion. Ultimately, I want my students to develop not just skills, but a lifelong love of music that brings them joy and confidence both inside and outside the piano studio.
