About David
I am a politics professional with a background in both academic study and real-world government experience. I hold a Master’s degree in Politics from Durham University and have worked as a political adviser in parliamentary and local government settings, supporting elected members, shaping policy, and producing briefings and speeches.
I want to teach because I genuinely enjoy helping students understand a subject that I work in every day. Politics is often taught in a very theoretical way, but I have seen first-hand how it operates in practice — and I find it rewarding to bridge that gap for students. Helping someone go from feeling unsure about a topic to being able to explain it clearly and confidently is something I find particularly motivating.
A large part of success in Politics comes down to how well you structure arguments and communicate ideas, and I take satisfaction in helping students develop those skills and see real improvement in their work.
Overall, I see tutoring as an opportunity to combine my professional experience with a genuine interest in helping students succeed, both academically and in their broader understanding of the political world.

I take a structured, results-driven approach to tutoring, focused on helping students understand content quickly and apply it effectively in exams. My teaching combines clear explanations, real-world examples, and constant exam practice. Politics can often feel abstract, so I bring it to life using my experience working in government and policy, helping students understand how concepts work in reality — not just in textbooks.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual student, but typically follows a simple format: a short recap of previous content, focused teaching on a specific topic, and then exam-style questions with detailed feedback. I place particular emphasis on essay structure, argument development, and how to secure top marks, as this is where students can make the biggest improvements.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, although I also offer 90-minute sessions for more in-depth exam preparation. I teach GCSE and A-Level Politics, and also support students with university applications and personal statements where relevant.
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
David helped my son with his politics A-level. He guided him in the curriculum, essay writing and critical thinking skills and I could not recommend him more.
My son got an A* in Politics and is now studying at the LSE. David also helped my son with his personal statement and higher education preparation to set him up for success in first year.
5 stars! Thank you so much, David.See more recommendations
