Joey is employed regularly to write blogs and is constantly working on his own creative writing projects. He has academic experience working as a school administrator for a Recording and Film post-secondary school and has achieved high scores on California credential tests, CSET English and CBEST.

About the lesson

Is your essay lacking comprehensive structure? Do you find Shakespeare boring? Do you get tripped up by seemingly archaic rules? Why not try learning writing from someone who's already in the field doing it? I am highly passionate about the English language and currently work as a journalist for music publications. Tutoring has always been a constant throughout my life--during my time at Marymount Manhattan College (BA Communications with a minor in Journalism), I assisted with private lessons for children aged 6-10. In addition, I tutored on my college campus for peers. Since graduating, I also obtained a CBEST and CSET towards a California teaching credential and also work with the admissions department for a Film/Music Industry trade school. I am comfortable tutoring anyone from ages 6 up.

For lessons, you can bring in an essay (or creative piece) and I can assist you at any step: from outlining through to revisions. My experience as a journalist forces me to look at my own writing with a careful, incisive eye... I can provide that same kind of attention when you develop your own work. If you seek help in reading/English/classics, we can review sample problems from your specific class and have discussions. I'm familiar with authors like Melville, Fitzgerald, Kafka, Cormac McCarthy, Hemingway, and others in the US/British canon. I prefer tutoring in a Socratic style but am flexible to accommodate your needs.

With communication, I'm direct, passionate, and artistic. I've dedicated my life to storytelling and can make the page come alive, especially for readers who find classics overly academic or stuffy. If you want to brush up on the classics or get that tough essay to the perfect place, I can not only help but allow you to have fun while doing it.
