About Zachary
I'm an electronics student with a strong interest in programming and technology. I like to understand how things work, experiment with different theories, and turn them into something usable.
I started because I enjoy helping others understand subjects that may seem scary, but I believe anyone, at any age, can learn anything with the right teaching, patience, and curiosity.
My teaching approach comes from my own experience as a student: some things I borrow from teachers, some things I think get skipped over too much, and some things I believe are taught correctly, at least to me. This is why I focus on understanding rather than remembering, as it will help you finish problems more quickly in the future and transfer your skills more cleanly.
I'm not here to make tutoring feel like just another class. If you're not enjoying your time or are stressed, that's on me. Learning something requires patience and consistency; it doesn't have to be work all the time. We can also get distracted and go on a little rant. And that's ok. Sometimes those little rants are what keep you focused and enjoying your time, and that's what's most important for staying consistent.
Again, the goal isn't to memorize; it's to understand and have fun doing it.

How lessons are structured
1) Initial Problem
At the start of each session, students try to solve an unfamiliar problem.
They are not expected to know the answer, but they should explain what they're looking at from their perspective and how they will approach the problem.
This helps me understand current knowledge and problem-solving abilities to challenge the student further.
2) Lecture
This is where I'd introduce the topics we will be covering and explain to the student why it works and why we do it, rather than merely remembering to do it.
3) Independent practice
Students get time to practice what they just learned, can ask questions, and I can guide them through, but I will not give them the answer outright. The goal here is to practice to integrate it into your workflow.
4) Break
Students need a break from the lecture and independent practice; they will get a 15-20 minute break. It should be known, however, that being late will not give you added time.
5) Teach Back
Students will explain what they've learned, and I will ask questions. This will deepen their understanding and enable me to correct any misunderstandings.
6) Hands-on Projects
Personalized students:
These students will NOT be able to do group projects; however, they can advance further in their studies and learn faster, as they don't have to learn as a group. You still get projects to do alone, just not the ability to work as a team.
Grouped students:
These students WILL be able to do group projects, but if they're fast learners, they may have to wait for the other students to catch up. You will also participate in solo projects, as it's important not to be dependent on others.
Teaching Philosophy
The biggest priority is helping students understand as much and as efficiently as possible; if you understand something, try combining it with something else.
I believe programming should be taught through hands-on practice and understanding rather than memorization or copying. Understanding why something works will help you create more complex features and fix bugs faster in the future.
I encourage students to:
Ask questions about anything
explain their thought processes, even when they're unsure
experiment with different approaches
make mistakes constantly; it's expected.
develop independent problem-solving skills
explore what you like
It's also important to remember that this will be as stress-free as possible. Suppose you break something, its ok. If you don't understand every single function of HTML, it's fine; I don't even think the creator of any language knows it all. We speak English but can still fail an English test.
