About Esther

Hello! I’m Esther, and I’ve been playing the piano since I was six. I’m currently pursuing a diploma in piano performance. As a student at the University of Edinburgh, I carried the role of a pianist and keyboardist for the Jazz Society’s Big Band, where I gained valuable experience in music improvisation. Having both relative pitch and a touch of perfect pitch allows me to learn songs by ear—an invaluable skill I’m excited to share with you! Whether you want to play your favorite piece but aren’t sure where to start, or you’re interested in developing piano accompaniment skills to play and sing as a solo performer, I’m here to help and try my best to help you in your unique piano journey! Piano Qualifications & Experience: - ABRSM Grade 8 Piano (Distinction) - Achieved Grade 8 in IGCSE Music - Prizewinner in various international piano competitions, including the Liszt International Piano Competition - Over 10 years’ experience as a piano accompanist for church children’s and teenage choirs - Invited performer for the graduation song at my high school graduation ceremony - Pianist/keyboardist for the University of Edinburgh Big Band Jazz Society - Creator of a dedicated piano YouTube channel and Instagram, with plans for long-term growth - Regular performer and improviser at Edinburgh jazz bars - Passionate about arranging and performing piano covers in diverse styles

About the lesson

I aim to introduce engaging and non-complex methods to students in learning piano, helping them to find a unique way of connecting with music and develop a passion for piano!

Online class method : Set camera that faces keyboard so you can see clearly what chord shape are like and learn in more efficient way.

In our first lesson, we'll discuss your hopes for learning piano and I'll listen as you play something comfortable.i would provide feedback based on your skill level. You can choose any song you wish to play and we'll adapt it for piano. Understanding the music is key. We'll analyze your chosen song's chords and structures to build a solid foundation and apply and play it on piano after theory . After covering the basics, we'll work on accompanying the song and developing improvisation skills to boost your musical expression and creativity. By the end of five lessons, you are able to play diversity of chords and the ability to arrange piano covers, with increased confidence in tackling new pieces, then in future lesson we can move on more advance technique . To track your progress, I recommend keeping a piano journal. For music sheets , I'll also set up a shared Google Drive folder for easy access to music sheets and resources.

Lesson content includes: - Playing songs by ear - Accompaniment technique - Learn a pop song on piano fast without sight reading - Improvising on a melody - Chord progression - Ornaments and arpeggios to make a song sound juicy and better - Legato skill on piano - Learn to apply chords in every song - Self-composing - Transposing music - IGCSE music subject tutor

I have known Esther for the past whole year at the University of Edinburgh where we both study philosophy. One day, in a pause from study she started to play the piano and I was really impressed by her abilities. I knew nothing and she offered me to teach some basics. After not even 15 minutes I already managed to play small parts of melodies! Her method made me feel comfortable and was really successful! For this reason I think she’d be a great tutor.
