About Ratna
An Odissi dancer who has performed on various stages for more than 15 years. Currently part of Vaishali Kala Kendra. There, under the guidance of Guru Dr Jyoti Srivastava I am doing advanced studies in Odissi and performing on all the latest choreography and production done by Guru Jyoti Srivastava.
My major interest is to spread the beauty and history of Odissi Dance not only through dance performances but also to propagate the actual meaning of the choreography. With this aim, I am continuously researching on different topics related to Odissi dance.
Currently, I have joined a group of Japanese Odissi dancers to help them in reading and explaining the Sanskrit and Odia parts of "Abhinaya Chandrika". I also explain the terms relating to Odia culture and Hindu mythology and helps to convey the true spirit of the verses.
Along with learning, I am also teaching Odissi to children and making them perform on during different events since last 5 years. I also teach them Shloka and Basics of Yoga in the initial stage. I have also worked as a freelancer and done choreography for Odissi dance presentation in schools for special assemblies.
Currently I am also teaching people outside India through online.
What I teach them:
1) Odia language (read and write) and literature.
1) Hindi language (read and write)
2) Teaching history, theory, roots of Indian Classical Dance
3) Indian mythology stories.
4) Sanskrit Shlokas and their meaning
I make reading materials (document, pdf and ppt) for my students and give them. I also write content/blog on different topics related to Indian Mythology.
I make reading materials in video format also. Do all kind of video and audio editing. I also work with video and audio synchronization.

Odissi Dance Class:

1) Basic Yoga to make your body flexible
2) Exercises to build stamina
3) Initial Stepping which will focus on foot movements, rhythm, tempo
4) Theory (Shloka, Mythology story, Tala, Mudra and many more)
5) Once good in stepping then I will teach small choreography
