About Santiago

I'm Santiago Leyva, a graduate in Mechatronics Engineering from the National University of Engineering of Peru (UNI), where I ranked in the top 5% of my class. I have five years of experience in software development and team management. I've trained in advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, conducting my own analyses in Colab notebooks using Python. I also have experience training clients, mentoring junior developers, and tutoring pre-university and university students.

I believe that teaching is a way to share my passion for learning. I want you to develop a theoretical foundation that allows you to analyze the problem before choosing a model. In practice, we'll revisit ideas from previous sessions so you can apply them to other data, interpret results, and justify your decisions. Your questions are also part of the learning process. Often, asking ourselves why a model fails is what leads us to a better understanding of how it works.

Does preparing data, training a model, or interpreting its results sound interesting to you? In my classes, I'll help you understand the basic concepts of machine learning and deep learning and apply them step by step with Python. The goal is for you to understand how models work, explain why you chose one, what its results tell you, and how to check if a change improves it.

We'll start by defining what you already know, your current level, and what you need to strengthen. We'll combine theory with exercises in Colab notebooks using Python. First, we'll review the theory, then we'll look at the code, analyzing what each section does. Afterward, you'll be able to modify the code, test your own decisions, and analyze the results. At the end of each session, I'll address your questions and review what needs further development. We'll adjust the time dedicated to theory and practice according to your progress.

We can work on data preparation, regression, classification, evaluation metrics, and simple neural networks with Python, pandas, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow/Keras. The classes are aimed at university students and adults who are new to these subjects or want to strengthen their foundational knowledge. If you need a refresher in Python, we can start there. Classes can be taught in Spanish or English, and we can use your notes, syllabi, exercises, or notebooks.
