About Ginger

I have been teaching for over 30 years in North America and Japan, and in both the sciences and the humanities. A former Head of Department for Math and Science as well as Head of Drama, my experience with all types of learning is global and comprehensive. In addition to teaching, I also have a graduate degree in Psychology and specialize in how mental health affects student ability to focus and retain. I first moved to Japan in the early 1990s and have raised fully bilingual children in the Japanese education system. I would love to share this beautiful culture and language with you!

What will class be like?

*Learn the language people really speak but also the structure and levels of language to be respectful and sensitive to culture
*Starting with hiragana, study the three syllabaries that make up the Japanese language
*In every session, a chance to practice the big three: reading, writing, and listening
*I will give you an opportunity to process and respond so I know you're with me or need to slow down

*Culture conversations about media, food, manners, and life in Japan

I have experience teaching several subjects at all levels from junior high school to college students in North America and from high school to medical and law school students in Japan. I raised two children in the Japanese school system, mostly before the internet, so living in the language was essential.
