About Josh
I'm currently a professor teaching digital painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I also work in the games and entertainment industry. My employers/clients include: Ubisoft, MZ, Ustwo, Innogames, amongst others. I've been digitally painting since 2001!
My goal here is to empower anyone to make art! Whether that's sketching on your couch to relax, or building a portfolio to approach clients. We all deserve the freedom to explore our creativity.
An iPad is the perfect companion for that journey. It can go with you just about anywhere, there's no mess to clean up while you paint, and it has no real limitations in what it can do artistically. All you need is someone willing to really listen closely then guide you on this creative path. I'd love the chance to do that for you!
Note: I'm also open to teaching Adobe Photoshop, Blender, and other production tools for the games industry. Just reach out if you're curious!

My lessons are built specifically for the student sitting in front of me, pulled from 75 hours of tried and true course work I teach in my college classes. We'll start with a meet and greet to discuss your goals, experience, and timeline.
Likewise, we'll discuss how you learn most efficiently. I've taught hundreds of people and I'm keenly aware we all learn differently! I listen and adapt my approach for you. Once we settle on a timeline and topic, I create a custom curriculum for you. We'll have clearly defined goals which stack to build your core skills with each lesson.
Note: there is no skill level required! I'm perfectly happy teaching someone who's never drawn a stroke in their life, and I'm perfectly happy teaching someone who wants to level up from experienced to pro.
My lessons are conducted either remotely via Zoom or in-person here in New York City. For zoom lessons, I use a dual camera approach- a webcam and a 4K digital camera pointed at my iPad. This way we can chat via the webcam while, at the same time, you can see my apps and iPad very clearly.

My rates are based on my level of experience (college professor, games industry veteran, and many mentorships). I feel comfortable with my rates because of how much work I put in for my students and mentees. I have references available upon request!
