About Matias

I’m Matias Rengel, a Berklee College of Music graduate, professional guitarist, music producer, and Recording Academy Voting Member based in Los Angeles. I have worked with artists including Snoop Dogg, Cobra Starship, Jordan Ward, Tessa Violet, Alex Cuba, Niña Dioz, and Gabe James, with music featured on ABC, Netflix, and ESPN.

As a live guitarist, I have performed at venues including the Troubadour, Garden Grove Amphitheater, the Viper Room, Whisky a Go Go, and the Yamaha Main Stage at NAMM. I have opened for SIX60 and Seaforth, shared the stage with Midtown, performed at the California State Fair and Alpine Blues Festival, and held residencies at Good Times at Davey Wayne’s and The Bourbon Room.

I have also created more than 200 instructional guitar videos and taught masterclasses covering technique, improvisation, harmony, rhythm, theory, and creative musicianship. My experience in recording studios, live performance, songwriting, production, and arrangement allows me to teach guitar in a practical, musical, and real-world way.

I specialize in neo-soul, funk, R&B, jazz harmony, rock, pop, improvisation, chord voicings, music theory, and arrangement. My goal is to help each student build strong fundamentals, develop their own sound, and become a more confident, expressive, and versatile guitarist.

About the lesson

I teach technique, rhythm, improvisation, ear training, music theory, jazz harmony, chord voicings, arrangement, and songwriting, with a strong focus on styles such as neo-soul, funk, jazz, rock, pop, and R&B.

A typical lesson combines technical exercises, theory applied directly to the instrument, song analysis, and real musical examples. Rather than teaching concepts in isolation, I show students how to use them creatively in their own playing, writing, and improvisation.

What sets me apart is my real-world experience as a Berklee College of Music graduate and active professional guitarist working in recording, production, and live performance. My lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate players, advanced musicians, songwriters, producers, and students preparing for music school or professional work.
