About Dylan

I’m a guitar teacher with a focus on helping beginners start playing real songs from the very beginning. My approach comes from seeing how often students get stuck learning exercises without ever feeling like they’re actually making music.

I’ve also spent several years studying music theory, which has given me a clear understanding of what is actually necessary for most students and what can be introduced later. This allows me to keep lessons practical and focused, without overwhelming beginners with unnecessary complexity.

My lessons are structured, practical, and focused on steady progress so students can build real skills while staying motivated. I teach both kids and adults, mainly online, and work across a wide range of musical styles depending on the student’s interests.

About the lesson

My approach is based on learning through real songs from the beginning. Each song is chosen to introduce specific techniques in a practical way, so skills develop naturally while making music. This keeps lessons engaging and avoids unnecessary complexity for beginners.

I teach primarily in English but also in Afrikaans.

A typical lesson is focused and structured. We review progress from the previous week, work through a current song, and introduce one or two new elements through that song (such as chord changes, rhythm patterns, or simple lead parts). Lessons are paced to avoid overload while still maintaining clear progress. Students also receive guidance on what to practise between lessons so they continue improving independently.

Lessons are aimed primarily at absolute beginners and early-stage players, including both kids and adults. They are especially suited to students who want to play real songs quickly rather than spend long periods on theory or drills. Music is taught across multiple genres, including rock, pop, blues, metal, country, funk, punk, and reggae.

With consistent practice, most students are able to build a setlist of around 12 or more songs within a year, while developing solid fundamentals in rhythm, coordination, and overall musical confidence.

Lessons are mainly online, with in-person sessions available where possible.
