About Jerry

I’m a working graphic designer, art director, photographer, and filmmaker with more than 30 years of professional experience creating visual communications for businesses and organizations. My background combines graphic design, photography, creative direction, and storytelling, so I approach design as more than simply knowing how to operate the software.

I’ve worked extensively with Adobe creative applications throughout my career and have spent years teaching, training, and mentoring creatives, clients, and team members. My professional work has included everything from marketing materials and brand communications to long-form publications, presentations, and complex production projects.

I’m patient, practical, and straightforward when I teach. I’ll explain not only how to accomplish something in InDesign or Illustrator, but why one design decision may work better than another. My goal is for you to leave each lesson with a stronger project, a better understanding of the tools, and skills you can use on your own.

About the lesson

My lessons are practical, hands-on, and built around what you actually want to create. Rather than working through generic exercises, we can use your own project whenever possible, whether you’re designing a brochure, publication, presentation, marketing piece, logo, or other visual communication.

I teach Adobe InDesign and Illustrator along with the fundamentals of strong graphic design, including layout, typography, hierarchy, composition, color, image selection, and preparing finished work for print or digital use. We can also incorporate Photoshop when your project requires image editing or preparation.

For online lessons, you’ll share your screen and do the work yourself while I guide you step by step. I’ve found that you learn much faster when your hands are on the keyboard and you’re solving the problem yourself rather than simply watching someone demonstrate it.

Beginners are welcome, but I also work with students and professionals who already know the software and want help solving a specific design problem, improving an existing project, or developing a more efficient workflow. We’ll start with what you need to accomplish and build the lesson around getting you there.
