About Estelle

Hello and welcome!

Bonjour! I’m Estelle, a native French speaker from Ardèche and an experienced French tutor with a creative and structured approach to learning French.

I’m also an artist, singer-songwriter, and performer , which strongly influences the way I teach. I pay close attention to pronunciation, rhythm and natural expression, helping students feel confident when speaking.

My goal is to make learning French clear, engaging and approachable, whether you’re a beginner or more advanced. I enjoy working with motivated learners who like to understand how the language works and are open to being gently challenged in a supportive environment.

I particularly love guiding learners through grammar step by step until everything makes sense, often using colour-coding and visual tools to improve clarity and retention.

Creativity is part of my teaching style (games, culture, and sometimes music ) are included when they support learning, always optional and adapted to each student.

Experience & Credentials

I have over 8 years of experience teaching French to children, teenagers and adults, both online and in UK schools, in one-to-one lessons and small groups.

I started tutoring French while living in Iceland , initially working with children aged 4 to 12, and quickly expanded to teaching adult learners in Iceland, England and France.

I hold:
• CAVILAM French as a Foreign Language certificate
• MOOC FLE certificate (Alliance Française / French Embassy network) - French as a Foreign Language
• BAC L (Languages & Arts)

I am also DBS checked

I am bilingual in French and English , with some knowledge of Spanish and Icelandic (I haven’t practiced them for a while, so I’m a bit rusty!).
As a lover of ancient history, I began learning Gaulish, an extinct Celtic language I sometimes use in my art and music and more recently started learning Welsh (I’m still a beginner ).

So, as a language learner myself, I understand the challenges students face and adapt my teaching accordingly.

About the lesson

How do my lessons work?

Lessons focus on real communication, with clear and progressive explanations.

We usually combine:
• Guided conversation
• Learning a new grammar or vocabulary tool ️
• Immediate practice ️
• Reusing new elements in speaking
• Cultural or creative activities when relevant

Each student has access to a shared document to track progress, including:
• Clear grammar explanations
• Cheat-sheets
• Useful vocabulary
• Exercises we complete together
• Take-home exercises when needed
• Personalised resources as required

Regular practice is key : even 5 minutes a day can make a real difference without feeling overwhelming.

I also offer shorter sessions for children .
