About Fabricio Mattos

I am a classical guitarist with around 20 years of teaching experience, and I hold both a Master’s and a PhD from the Royal Academy of Music in London.

My musical interests are wonderfully eclectic, ranging from 18th- and 19th-century guitars and historically informed repertoire to Latin American and contemporary music. This broad experience allows me to tailor lessons to each student’s interests, goals, and level.

I particularly enjoy teaching beginners, helping them develop a strong foundation while discovering the pleasure of playing music, as well as advanced students looking to refine their technique, musicality, and interpretation.

Over the years, I have helped many students prepare successfully for music examinations with boards including ABRSM and Trinity. Whether you are learning guitar for the first time, preparing for an exam, or simply looking to develop your playing and explore new repertoire, I would be delighted to help you progress and enjoy the instrument.

About the lesson

My teaching is practice-based and tailored to each student, from complete beginners to advanced guitarists. I place a strong emphasis on developing solid technique while exploring a varied and eclectic range of repertoire, always taking the student’s musical interests and goals into account.

Lessons can be structured around formal grade examinations, such as ABRSM, or designed as a personalised programme to meet a specific goal—for example, preparing for a conservatoire or Master’s application, or simply playing that song that you've always dreamt of playing!

I believe lessons should be focused and productive without becoming overwhelming. I aim to create a positive and encouraging environment where students can enjoy the learning process, build confidence, and experience steady, tangible progress without feeling burdened by excessive information or expectations.

I searched online and found Fabricio Matos (right after the Covid lockdown was lifted) to restart my guitar lessons.
Such a stroke of good luck! Fabricio is an extremely competent, dedicated, focused and patient teacher. He understands the limits of my abilities and adapts his teaching as required. He always finds different ways to get the best out me as a student. His knowledge of music history and world-wide musical
traditions adds an extra dimension to his teaching. He’s a star!
