About Kyla

I got 70% for Biology in School. I taught Cambridge International Biology in to Grade 9 and 10's. I did this for two years. I taught Science to grade 0's up to Grade 8's for two years in the UK. I was a Grade7 Science teacher for a year in South Africa. I have privately tutored Science from Grade R up to Grade 10 for Four years. That totals 9 Years of Science tutoring Experience. I have worked in both The UK and South Africa as a Science teacher. I am currently studying a course on how to bridge gaps in understanding how Science works.

About the lesson

My teaching method is to first explain some background information to the learner. I will then put up a picture of what they are learning about. For example the functioning of the heart.It will be a detailed drawing of how the heart works. We will then look at the parts and see how the way they are made helps them to do their functions. I will then give them a fain picture of the heart with the labels missing and they have to fill in the missing labels. They will then take two colors. The one we will write out the structural characteristics of each part and with another color will write the function of each part. Then they will watch a video. We will then make a flow diagram explain how the heart beats. I will then bring out a real heart. They will get special gloves and masks and will be given time to feel the different parts of the heart and identify and label them. We will go over the the parts their structure and functions, then look at the flow diagram . They will have to trace the picture of the heart. write out all the parts structure and function. They will then practice either explaining it to me or to a friend. Then they will make a video about the heart. I will then mix up the labels and information and flow chart and they will have to put them in the right order. I try to make learning as interactive as possible and try various ways to reinforce the important facts.We then go over practice questions and Science Vocabulary to make sure that they understand the questions. Science is interesting and opens doors to all Kinds of careers.
