About Lydia

Since finishing my degree, I look back on school and think about how cool it would have been to have somebody in my life who could have advised/helped out with the nitty-gritty, boring parts of education. Such as discussing essay ideas, or topics I was particularly interested in. Although there are buddy systems in schools, from my experience they haven't been super helpful.

I would like to offer students private, non-judgemental sessions for essay writing skills, info and advice on personal statements or university admissions. In general I would like to help empower students to feel in control of their studies and actually enjoy what they are learning and how.

About the lesson

- I take a holistic approach to teaching/learning. This means a session is incredibly personalised according to what the individual needs. For example, one student might learn visually and massively benefit through this approach, another might need a more traditional apprach, such as flashcards. Everyone learns in a different way and I strongly believe this should be embraced. I also strongly believe this makes education and learning more enjoyable!

- My university experience was incredible but at times hard. I am eager to meet prospective or current undergrads and support them with mentoring sessions, essay writing or just general confidence boosting from somebody who has been through it and thrived. For this reason, I especially love working with neurodiverse students, wherein traditional education styles might not be the best fit.

- My skills are primarily in English and writing. I can help with personal statements (e.g. how to get into a Russell Group university), essay writing (including planning, drafting, proof-reading), exam preparation (for GCSE and A-Level students), and mentoring i.e. somebody to chat to/get advice from.

- My degree is in Philosophy so I am also available to tutor in this area.

- My sessions can last up to 2 hours, depending on the needs of the individual. Please enquire if you need more time than this.

-As I build up a portfolio I am offering affordable sessions.
