About Sarah

I am an experienced tutor, having worked with students who have English as their first language as well as their second language. In 2019 I spent time in Switzerland working as a live in Au Pair for a family, tutoring their two daughters in English and Science. Over the summer of 2020 I worked as a live in English tutor in Athens tutoring two boys in preparation for their Cambridge B2 and C1 exams. I feel I have a rich understanding of how to approach different students. I have been tutoring in person specifically in London for 3 years + and online for 4 years +. I previously studied Pharmacy at King's College London before transferring to Liberal arts. I am a kind, patient and enthusiastic teacher who recognises the importance of developing a student's academic confidence.

About the lesson

My lessons have a clear structure and aim. I want my student to find enjoyment in my classes, reduce self-judgement and get great grades! I welcome questions all through the class and am very responsive. No one learns the same - this idea is fundamental in my teaching. Firstly, I like to get to know each student in terms of how they learn best and what their goals are, this can be discussed with parent(s)/carer(s). I will start by talking about their current homework, how they are feeling in the subject and any upcoming assessments. I feel that self-confidence is fundamental in success and this is something I aim to work on alongside grades. For students working towards specific examinations I like to start by giving a standardised test for their age group. I reinforce correct technique whilst also highlighting errors and tailor tuition accordingly with regular progress checks. For students with specific goals in mind I have access to a plethora of exam papers that we can use to practise rigorously and ensure that we reach and even exceed our targets! I also offer tuition for students looking to get ahead in their curriculum, to catch up on missed class time or for extra support in their subject area. Through a combination of workbooks, discussions, practise questions and exam style questions we can work our way through the syllabus and help the student in the best way for them.
