About Samson
Hi, I'm Samson. I'll admit the violin has a bit of a reputation, and honestly, some of it is deserved — it's a demanding instrument to begin, especially for a child. But I've also seen, again and again, that kids who get through those early weeks with their enthusiasm intact often end up loving this instrument more deeply than almost any other. Getting them safely through that stretch is what I care about most.
What I love about teaching young violinists specifically is how much patience and good humor the job calls for — and how rewarding it is when a child who once dreaded the early screeches starts producing a genuinely sweet note and beams with pride.
I lean on parents quite a bit here, mostly to manage expectations. I'll be honest that early progress on this instrument can sound rough no matter how well a lesson goes, and I think families deserve to know that upfront so they don't lose confidence in either their child or me.

I'll be upfront about something: the violin is genuinely one of the harder instruments to start on, and the first sounds a beginner makes are rarely pretty. With young students, my whole approach is built around getting past that stage without anyone losing heart — plenty of encouragement, very low stakes, and a good sense of humor about the inevitable squeaks along the way.
We build technique in small, careful steps — how to hold the instrument comfortably, how to draw a smooth bow, how to find the right notes — always celebrating tiny improvements rather than waiting for big ones. Because the early violin can be genuinely frustrating for a child, I keep a close eye on morale and I'm quick to lighten the mood, add a game, or simply take a short break if focus starts slipping.
Parents play an especially important role here, because the violin asks a bit more patience at home than some instruments do. I make sure to explain clearly what's realistic to expect at each stage, so a family isn't discouraged by slow-sounding early progress that's actually completely normal.
My real goal for a young violin student isn't rapid technical progress — it's getting them through those tricky early months still smiling, so the instrument has a real chance to become something they love rather than something they were forced to endure.
