  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I teach art, specifically drawing.I focus on different types of drawing and different tools. I specialise in drawing fundamentals, cartooning, caricature and portraiture.I am a self taught artist and my teaching forms again as a learning process for me, as learning art is a never ending process.
I was as an enthusiastic kid with loads of hobbies and art was one which calmed me down a bit. This constant affinity had me to practice the skill. My architecture course gave me professional tips and techniques so as to express more.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I used to teach young kids Maths and Science, but they understood the concepts only after drawing the scenario or scribbling or doodling them and that pushed me to teach art to kids which made me realise the importance of art. Kids are my motivation. Having the ability to touch lives that too kids' is exhilarating as I could have a significant role in molding a person's life.
  • How does your work help society?

As said earlier kids are the future. When kids love their work ,they start to love themselves too. By teaching drawing I'm able to help one kid at a time to be a better version of themselves.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

It would definitely be the younger version of me. She had all the courage to explore without worrying about the outcome. She had so much fun while learning, though I get to have fun here and there the pressure to be perfect daunt me now.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I'm currently learning to sing and play Guitar. Athletics and physical training has been a constant practice in the long run. I occasionally go for skating and snookers also. Basically I'm a jack of all trades and love to maintain balance between them.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

There was this kid for whom I took Maths and Science classes in my house before the pandemic. He was an hyperactive kid with a petite silhouette for his age. He was in 6th grade and not as good in academics as his mom expected him to be, so I tried different methods to make him understand the concepts. His grades slowly increased but one day he had scored 10 on 10 in a surprise test and we had no idea how. His parents were so happy and praised me so much. Later when I asked him how that happened he was hesitant at first and then revealed saying “Ma'am, do you remember we used to draw small small pictures in my drawing book to remember everything" I said yes, the he continued "during my tests, class Miss allowed to have any rough note under my exam paper and by mistake I took my drawing note, even she checked it for any notes or bits of answers and allowed me to take it inside exam hall.I was able to look at them and remember games we played to study everything. I wrote all I remember”. After this there were 2 exciting parts for me one being how he was able to remember everything from just small pictures and other is how even professional teachers look at their subjects only as texts and direct diagrams and not as little interesting concepts a child could actively interact with.
