About Jessica

I want to help you. I know how difficult it can seem, when you're struggling to get to grips with a subject's content, and how that difficulty can transform rather quickly into stress.

I'm 20 years old. I know what it's like to feel stressed about exams round the corner, and even more stressed about those exams of subjects you don't feel confident about. I struggled a lot with the exact same thing. However, I still managed to achieve the highest grades in GCSE, the highest grades in IB, I have just secured a first for year 1 at my dream university, and I'm in the process of getting a book published. This, is because of hard work and perseverance. Not 'luck'. I think this is something anyone is capable of, so long as they start off on the right foot. I want to help you with this.

In my gap year, I worked as a TA, helping children rediscover their passion for subjects that is often destroyed by stress. I want to help you rekindle your enjoyment for English, to help you thrive at the subject and conquer your exams.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is tailored to you. With the experience I have had as a TA, combined with my first-hand experience as a student at competitive schools and a highly competitive university , I understand the pressures current students face- and I know that each student learns differently.

In terms of qualifications, English has always been my favourite subject at school. I achieved a grade 9 in both English Literature and English Language. I went on to achieve the highest grade fro English Literature at the international baccalaureate level. Currently, despite studying politics and philosophy at the LSE, I have written a book which is in the process of getting published. Yet, none of those grades were down to 'luck', it was down to hard work and perseverance.

I provide hour long lessons, the first of which we will discuss the methods and strategies of revision/ work, that you believe work particularly well. From there, we will target the areas you find trickiest and make sure you feel confident in them using techniques that I believe will help you and that have certainly helped me, and building upon techniques you have already developed.

I believe that a child can thrive in any subject, so long as they are confident. I also believe that confidence can be made or broken by the teacher a student has. For example, I cannot emphasise enough my lack of confidence in my ability to perform well in maths. Yet, having had excellent teachers who fostered and nurtured my confidence, I managed to achieve a grade 8 in GCSE maths and the highest grade at IB level.

I'm here to help you build your confidence and reach your full potential. I teach any age up to age 18, and am more than happy for you to bring work from class that you're struggling with, or alternatively, I am more than happy to provide extra resources for you to work on at home, or with me in our lessons.
