About Jonathan
I have played the alto and tenor saxophones for ten years, and have been tutoring for 4. I teach and play mostly jazz, with some concert music here and there. In 2026 I graduated from MacEwan University with a Bachelor of Music, with the program focusing on contemporary styles and practices, including jazz, rock, and funk, but also songwriting/composition, studio playing, and stage performance. The main level I teach is beginner and intermediate. I am here to guide you from the very basics of setting up, making a solid sound, and reading music, to the fundamentals of jazz improv and chord theory.

My strategy as a teacher is to always have something specific and engaging for you to work on. My hope is that your practice sessions are never spent wondering what to do or how to get better. If you struggle with what I show you and don’t know how to practice it, we’ll work on it together. In all, my main goal of these lessons is to instill a love for playing and curiosity about all that the saxophone can do.
