About Gonzalo

I'm a saxophonist, composer, and educator with over 20 years of experience performing and teaching jazz. I studied with Dave Liebman, Donny McCaslin, Seamus Blake, George Garzone, Fred Hersch, and David Kikoski — and I bring that lineage directly into my teaching.
I work with intermediate and advanced saxophone students who want to go deeper into jazz improvisation, harmony, chord scales, bebop language, jazz standards, and musical interpretation. I also prepare students for conservatory auditions and entrance exams.
Lessons cover improvisation through scales, modes, and harmony; transcription of jazz masters; repertoire development; ear training; and sight-reading — always connected to real musical situations, not isolated exercises.
Technique, sound production, articulation, and rhythm are developed as tools to support musical flow and expression.
Classes are structured but flexible, fully adapted to each student's goals: jazz performance, conservatory preparation, or overall musical development. Available online worldwide.

I work mainly with intermediate and advanced saxophonists who already have some technical and reading background and want to go deeper into improvisation, interpretation and overall musical understanding.

Excellent! Gonzalo is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable music teacher . His lessons are both interesting and challenging and have guided me towards a more structured and targeted approach to my practice . I feel my sax improv skills are definitely improving with Gonzalos guidance .

Chris is a great student. He’s been mostly self-taught for about 15 years and came to me for guidance and structure in his tenor sax practice.
In just two lessons, he’s already made great progress. He’s positive, polite, and always punctual. I’m really looking forward to continuing our work together.

Gonzalo is an incredibly knowledgable and friendly instructor who brings a lot of enthusiasm and positivity to our lessons. As someone who has taught music before, I am very impressed with his natural teaching ability. His lessons are not formulaic but rather catered to your individual developmental needs. His approach inspires confidence yet I have felt a solid level challenge. I have progressed enormously since training with him and cannot recommend him enough as a saxophone instructor.

Luke is a more advanced student who came to study jazz improvisation and develop his jazz sound on the tenor saxophone, coming from a primarily classical background. In just this first month of lessons, he has made significant progress, both musically and conceptually. He is highly motivated, open-minded, and brings a great attitude to every lesson. I’m very happy with his progress so far and look forward to continuing our work together.

Perfect! Gonzalo was amazing he helped my son with his NYSSMA level 5 performance of Sonata In C Minor.
He was very good at seeing where he needed help even sending additional assignments a few times for him to work on in between lessons.
We would recommend him to any student who wants to improve their Playing.
