About Mikaela Mae

I am a JLPT N4 passer with hands-on experience teaching Japanese to children online since June 2026. I teach beginner-level Japanese through structured lessons covering basic vocabulary, hiragana, katakana, and introductory reading and writing. My teaching approach combines guided practice, repetition, songs, interactive games, and creative activities tailored to each child's interests and learning pace. I aim to help young learners build familiarity with Japanese step by step while developing confidence, curiosity, and a solid foundation for continued language learning.

About the lesson

Teaching Methods and Techniques

My teaching approach combines structured repetition with engaging, interactive activities. We reinforce each lesson until you become approximately 90% familiar with the material before progressing to new concepts. To make learning more effective and enjoyable, I incorporate songs, visual aids, games, and activities inspired by your personal interests.

A Typical Lesson

Each lesson begins with a warm-up game to encourage participation and prepare you for learning. We then review previously learned material, if applicable, before introducing new vocabulary through an imaginative adventure story. A short retrieval game helps strengthen recall, while a drawing activity provides a creative way to apply and reinforce what you have learned.

What Sets Me Apart

I value patience, adaptability, and meaningful learning. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor activities to each student's interests, needs, and learning pace. For example, a student who enjoys geography might explore country names in Japanese. My goal is not simply to help students memorize vocabulary and characters, but to develop lasting familiarity, reading confidence, and the ability to apply their knowledge.
Who Are These Lessons For?

My lessons are designed primarily for children and beginners who are starting their Japanese language journey. We focus on foundational vocabulary, hiragana and katakana, and introductory reading and writing skills.

Whether you are learning Japanese out of personal interest or introducing your child to a new language, lessons are structured to provide a supportive, engaging, and personalized learning experience. No prior Japanese knowledge is necessary—just a willingness to learn and explore!
