About Michael

As a language enthusiast, I searched for new challenges after acquiring native or close native level English language skills. Thus, Istudied the Japanese language (and a little Chinese, including classical Chinese) and pursued it in a rather enthusiastic fashion. Today, I am a professional translator & enjoy teaching - in a scientifically rather modern way that is focused more on how to acquire, not only simply learn a language.

Now there always will be the question: will I get along with my new teacher? What kind of person will he be? Well, that is easy to experience when meeting one another, but difficult on a whole other level when you try to describe yourself. So .. I just will be mentioning a few more of my past experiences and stations in life, thus you might be able to get a grasp on what kind of person I might be:

After finishing school and completing my on the job training in a office of a local cinema, I went to the military where I advanced to the rank of a staff sergeant during my 10 years of service. Of course, I did have training and leadership responsibilities there.
After the military though, I went back into education - university. Here I was in a environment with my fellow students, mostly younger then me, and all those highly educated professors and doctorates that did their best teach me Japanese - and everything surrounding or regarding Japan as well.

I really enjoyed this time - but so did I with my time at the military. I feel very comfortable no matter what people I face, no matter the age or gender or color of skin. When you deal in something like language, people will be important to you. Because people make languages come alive.

So - why not try it out?

Your skills, preferences, and specific needs are critical to my methodology.

Specifically, for beginners this means working with my own materials. At this stage, most textbooks are not in-depth enough and expect a significant amount of self-study that can quickly become daunting. To loosen it up with the first small example sentences and useful terms helps the initial experience significantly.

If you have previous knowledge, I recommend the Genki or Minna no Nihongo series. As a German, one simply has to admit that there are still no German-language textbooks that are even roughly equal to the two large English-language ones mentioned.

Furthermore, one of my personal teaching goals is to introduce language acquisition. Learning should be fun. Learning can also take place independently on a regular basis.

How can I organize learning Japanese as entertainment? What tools do I need for this? What previous knowledge is needed?

Answer all those questions and get from beginners to language professionals - with me!

Details

Price and duration of the lessons are negotiable.

No travel surcharge if in the immediate vicinity (up to 3 km).
Important: the specified area is absolutely relevant. Assuming that someone wants intensive lessons that are more geared towards seminars and would be associated with corresponding travel expenses, then this must be negotiated individually and the price level would be completely different (from 250 € / day). Please understand that I will reject requests from students who are not within my vicinity and still want personal lessons at home. I simply do not have the time for longer travel on individual lessons.
