About Miranda
Greetings! I'm a Los Angeles native who holds a master's from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor's from U. C. Santa Barbara, where I minored in Spanish. Often spotted with a pen in hand, I spend the bulk of my days writing as a professional journalist. My superpower is my way with words, and ability to transfer that skill to my students. Helping others surf the sometimes nebulous process of drafting clear, concise and cogent sentences is my bread and butter. In the foreign language department, I also hold a Content-Language Integrated Learning teaching certificate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and I just returned from seven months in Latin America, where I spoke Spanish and Portuguese regularly and spent time with family. As a high-energy athlete who struggles to keep seated, I understand the challenge traditional learning poses for antsy, young people. Learning is and should be a creative process, most effective and resonant when framed as an activity, rather than a chore. I take a dynamic approach to crafting lessons in using movement, tools, toys, songs, and games to teach. As a certified yoga instructor, I also really care about the health of my students and realize sitting at a desk for hours on end is not useful.
