About Joshua
I currently work in education at an elementary school, where I’ve developed patience and a passion for helping others learn. My passion for music has been a constant throughout my life. I also taught music in an after-school program in New York. Playing multiple instruments has expanded my ear and deepened my understanding of music.

I believe music should be accessible to everyone, whether you’re picking up a bass for the first time or looking to become a more confident player. My lessons are designed for beginners through intermediate players, and I adapt them to each student’s goals, whether that’s learning songs, playing with a band, improving technique, or developing as a musician.
I like to build a strong foundation first. We start with scales and ear training so you can recognize notes, intervals, and patterns instead of relying only on tabs. From there, we work on dexterity exercises to build finger strength, coordination, and good technique.
Once those fundamentals are in place, we focus on the role of the bass in a song. We’ll talk about locking in with the drums, feeling the groove, staying in the pocket, and understanding why certain bass lines work. As you grow, I’ll help you move beyond simply copying songs and start developing your own musical voice and unique sound.
I learned to read music through school, but I also taught myself how to play by ear. Because of that, I can teach both approaches and help students find what works best for them. When I learn a new song, I use a mental map that helps me quickly identify the key, chord movement, and patterns. I’ll teach you that same way of thinking so you can learn songs more efficiently and become a more independent musician.
Most importantly, I’m patient. Learning an instrument is a process, and everyone progresses at a different pace. My goal is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and enjoying the journey of becoming a better bassist.
